What is Baptism and what's it about?
Celebrate your Faith
Baptism is an exciting opportunity to publicly celebrate your faith in Christ, follow Christ's example, and obey Christ's teaching. Once you have chosen to follow Christ and put your faith and trust in Him for salvation; We encourage you to be baptized as soon as possible. If you are interested in being baptized please let our pastor know or message us on facebook: facebook.com/fbcgustine. We would love to celebrate this incredible moment with you and we encourage you to invite your friends and family to join in the celebration.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BAPTISM?
It illustrates Christ's burial, resurrection, and our new life as a follower of Christ.
"By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead... so also we may live a new life!" - Romans 6:4
WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?
Every person who has believed in Christ.
"Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized..." - Acts 2:41
At FBC Gustine, we wait until our children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them.
WHY BE BAPTIZED BY IMMERSION?
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water." - Matthew 3:16
The Greek word "Baptizo" means "To immerse or dip under water". It symbolizes Christ's burial and resurrection!
WHEN SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
"Those who believed...were baptized...that day!" - Acts 2:41
There is no reason to delay. As soon as you receive Christ into your life, you can be baptized. Contact us so we can schedule a Sunday that works best for you.
Is Baptism Necessary For Salvation?
No. Baptism is not about salvation, but rather about identification. Baptism doesn’t save us, but it is the first act of obedience as a follower of Jesus.
What About Infant Baptism?
Many people in today’s culture have been baptized as infants. We celebrate their parent’s desire to commit their children to following God’s path.
At FBC Gustine, we have periodic Parent & Child dedications instead of infant baptism. We believe that infant baptism differs from believer’s baptism. We practice believer’s baptism because we believe that believer’s baptism by immersion is consistent with what the Bible teaches throughout the New Testament. Believer’s baptism is a symbol of one’s own personal decision to follow Jesus.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR WHEN I AM BAPTIZED?
Wear shorts and a dark colored t-shirt . Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for your wet articles of clothing. Changing rooms will be available.
